Burgers with peppers and sausages

Ingredients:

  • 450 g lean ground beef
  • 225g hot or sweet raw Italian sausage, casing removed (ground pork with Italian spices)
  • 4 potato hamburger buns, split lengthwise
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Coarse salt and freshly ground pepper
  • 1 red onion, sliced ​​1/2 cm thick.
  • 2 bell peppers (red and yellow), cut into 1.2cm wide strips.
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil, plus more for greasing
  • 1 clove of garlic, grated
  • 4 large sheets basilica, torn into pieces
  • Warmed marinara sauce for topping
    (recipe marinara sauce)
  • Potato chips for serving

Preparation:

  1. In a medium bowl, combine ground beef, sausage, garlic, oregano, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and a few grinds of pepper. Mix with your hands. Form into 4 patties, 2 cm thick. Set aside.
  2. Heat a grill pan or grill to medium heat. In a bowl, combine the onion, bell pepper, olive oil, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and a few grinds of pepper.

    Grill the vegetables, turning occasionally, for 7 minutes, until tender and lightly golden. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  3. Brush a grill pan with olive oil. Add the patties and cook for 4 minutes per side, until cooked through and golden brown. Two minutes before done, top with 1 slice of cheese and cover with a lid.
  4. Serve the burgers on buns, topped with the onion and bell pepper mixture, basil, and marinara sauce. Serve with chips.
