Classic marinara sauce

Ingredients:

  • Three jars (430 g each) canned pureed tomatoes
  • 3 - 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup white wine (or chicken broth)
  • Salt and ground pepper
  • A pinch of sugar
  • Olive oil
  • Fresh parsley leaves
  • Fresh basil leaves

Preparation:

  1. Pour a tablespoon of olive oil into a hot frying pan over medium-high heat, add garlic and chopped onion and fry briefly.
  2. Now add the wine (or chicken broth) and cook, stirring, until the liquid has reduced by half.
  3. Add the crushed tomatoes and stir. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and a pinch of sugar. Reduce the heat to low and simmer the marinara sauce for 30 minutes.

    Towards the end of cooking, chop fresh parsley and basil and add it to the sauce to taste, stir.
