French toast with cinnamon cream topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 8 slices toast bread or other white bread, cut 1.5 – 2 cm thick.
- 8 large eggs
- 1.5 cups cream
- 3 tbsp. granulated sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/8 tsp salt
- 4 tbsp (60 g) butter
- Powdered sugar for serving
- Maple syrup for serving
Preparation:
- Preheat the oven to 150°C. Arrange the bread slices in a single layer on a baking sheet (it's okay if they overlap slightly). Toast the bread in the oven for 6 minutes, then flip it over and bake for another 6 minutes. Remove and let cool.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, cream, sugar, cinnamon, vanilla and salt.
- Heat a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Dip 2 slices of bread into the egg mixture. Let the bread soak for 30-60 seconds, checking every 15 seconds (the slices should be soaked and heavy, but not lose their shape or break).
Melt 1 tablespoon (15 g) of butter in a frying pan and place 2 slices of bread in it. Fry for 4-5 minutes on each side until the bread is golden brown and the inside is cooked through. Adjust the heat as needed. Don't let the bread brown too quickly or too slowly.
- Reduce oven temperature to 95°C.
Place the finished toasts on a rack placed on a baking sheet in the oven. Keep warm until serving.
- Serve French toast dusted with powdered sugar and drizzled with maple syrup.
