Hot sandwiches with cheese and bagel toppings topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
Sandwiches
- 1/4 cup cream cheese, room temperature
- 3 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp butter + more as needed
- 4 thick slices wheat or country white bread
- Bagel toppings
- 60 g mozzarella, thinly sliced
- 4 tomato slices, cut in half
- 4 thin slices red onion, halved
- 1 tbsp capers
Bagel toppings
- 1 teaspoon sesame seeds
- 3/4 tsp poppy seeds
- 0.5 tsp dried garlic
- 0.5 tsp. dried onions
- 1/4 teaspoon coarse salt
Preparation:
- Mix cream cheese and green onions until smooth.
- In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the bread slices and toast until lightly browned on one side; transfer to a cutting board, toasted side up (the toasted sides will become the inside of your sandwich). Spread all four slices with the onion cream cheese, then top with the bagel mixture. Top two slices with mozzarella, sliced tomato, and red onion. Press capers into the cream cheese on the other two slices. Assemble the sandwiches.
- Add a little more butter to the pan if it seems dry. Place the sandwiches in the pan, cover, and cook until golden brown on the bottom, 3–5 minutes.
- Flip the sandwiches over and cook, covered, until golden brown on the other side and the mozzarella is melted, about 2 more minutes. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt, cut in half, and serve.
Bagel toppings: Mix sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried garlic, dried onion and salt.
