French toast with cinnamon sugar topcook.tomathouse.com
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of milk
- 3 large eggs, beaten
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 8 thick slices white bread (about 3/4 white sandwich bread, cut into 2cm slices)
- For serving: jam or natural maple syrup
Preparation:
- Preheat the oven to 120°C and place a rack over a baking sheet. Combine the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- In a glass pie dish or casserole, whisk the eggs and milk. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add about 1/2 tablespoon of butter, swirling the pan to coat the surface. Dip 2 slices of bread into the egg mixture and immediately place them in the pan. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar and cook until the bottoms are browned and crispy, about 4 minutes. If needed, add a nut-sized amount of butter to the pan and flip the toast over, cooking until golden brown on the other side, about 3 minutes more.
- Serve the toast immediately or transfer it to a wire rack in a warm oven to keep warm. Repeat with the remaining bread and eggs. Serve with jam or maple syrup.
