topcook.tomathouse.com

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 tsp vegetable oil
  • Half a large white onion, chopped
  • 220 g of ground beef
  • 2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
  • 1.5 tsp chili powder
  • 0.5 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 0.5 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 cup canned chopped tomatoes
  • 1.5 tsp tomato paste
  • 8 sausages
  • 8 hot dog buns, cut into pieces
  • 110 g of grated cheddar
  • Ketchup and mustard, for serving

Preparation:

  1. Chile:

Heat the vegetable oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat. Add the onion and cook, stirring frequently, until softened and translucent, about 8 minutes. Add the ground beef and garlic and cook, stirring and breaking up the ground beef with a wooden spoon, until cooked through, about 5 minutes. Add the chili powder, cayenne pepper, cumin, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and a few freshly ground black pepper and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.
  2. Add the tomatoes, tomato paste, and 1/2 cup water to the pan. Stir well and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to medium and simmer, uncovered, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly, about 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste and keep the sauce warm.
  3. Chili dogs:

Preheat a grill or large grill pan to medium-high heat. Grill the hot dogs according to package directions until grill marks appear and the dogs are heated through, about 5 minutes. Toast the buns, if needed, for about 1 minute. Assemble the hot dogs and top each with 1/4 cup chili. Sprinkle each chili dog with cheese and serve with ketchup and mustard.
